B.A. Courses – for Pre-Service Teachers – Hannam University
Teaching Practicum
This class provides a platform for observation, practice, feedback, discussion, and reflection that will help you become a good and effective teacher. More broadly, the skills from good teaching (being an effective, confident speaker, a careful listener, an inspiring mentor, a good communicator and team player) are useful skills that apply to other aspects of professional and personal life.
British and American Culture
This course focuses on some central aspects of cultural and national identity in Britain and the US, examining these critically. Categories such as gender, ethnicity, and class are introduced and explored in the context of British and American culture and society.
Writing (Summer, Winter)
This writing course aims at providing students with the writing skills essential to their successful undertaking of academic. Strategies will be learned to improve writing skills and a variety of activities will be completed to improve performance (extensive and intensive reading, journal writing, compositions in a variety of rhetorical styles, etc.).
Advanced English Conversation I
This course will prepare students for real world conversations, situations, and communication. All four skills will be practiced using a variety of interesting and relevant topics. Students will have many opportunities to improve their conversation skills. Pair and group work allows students time to practice what they have learned.
Advanced English Conversation II
This course is designed to focus on daily usage. The lessons are designed to give students different situations to express their opinions, thoughts, beliefs, etc. The course will use group discussions, whole class discussions, group presentations and individual presentations to allow students to express themselves freely in English.
Advanced English Conversation, International Students (China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan)
While primarily a conversation course, this course will also focus on the other three skills: listening, reading, and writing. This course will also help the student improve speaking skills by exploring various contemporary topics of interest in depth. We will use the exercises in the textbook as well as various worksheets, audio and videotapes,
Intermediate English Composition I
Students develop the ability to compose (i.e., comprehend, select, plan, and draft) and produce lengthier texts on diverse general education academic topics by applying appropriate writing strategies.
Intermediate English Composition II
This course will reinforce the concepts practiced in English Composition I by introducing you to basic research concepts and techniques. It will also give you a chance to put these new concepts and techniques to work as you develop a final research paper.
Beginning English Conversation I
This course focuses on improving your ability to speak and to understand spoken English through a variety of listening, pronunciation, and speaking activities. Active participation in individual, pair, and group activities is required in each class session.
Beginning English Composition II
The emphasis in Beginning English Composition II is placed primarily on planning, outlining, writing, and on revising essays. Stress is placed upon exposition and argumentation; emphasis is also given to grammar, sentence structure, organization, and diction.
Academic Writing, Science Department
This course emphasizes using standard English grammar in writing paragraphs and short essays. There is a continued emphasis on writing compound sentences and an introduction to complex structures, using appropriate conjunctions, transitional expressions, and punctuation.
English Logic & Discourse Curriculum
This course provides an introduction to discourse analysis and the different approaches used in the analysis of discourse. Discourse here is defined as the study of the organization of language above the sentence level, but also as any manifestation of language in context.
